This landscape oil paining was commissioned especially for the Watermark Hotel from Texas artist, Roi James. The scene is a fictional representation of the warmth and beauty of the Texas landscape. It is framed in a hand-carved, gilded molding which complements the warm tones within the painting.

Hand Cut Metal Artifacts based on Spanish Designs with Rust Finish
Artist: M. Marin
These four metal objects hearken back to the metal works of the Spanish Colonial period. The designs for these hand-hammered objects were based on antique Spanish ironworks designs and were crafted for the Watermark Hotel overseas. They are mounted on suede mattes and framed in molding imported directly from Spain.

Untitled Bird Paintings
Artist: Brad Durham
Renowned California artist, Brad Durham, created six oil paintings for the Watermark Hotel. They picture six (6) native birds of Texas; the female American Redstart, the Bewick’s Wren, the Cowbird, the Loggerhead Shrike, The Greenish Elaena, and the Blue Headed Vireo. The birds are depicted in abstracted natural environments of vivid colors, which draw the eye to the lobby’s focal point, the fireplace.

Historical Photographs

The L. Frank Saddlery Company was for many years the occupant of the property which eventually became the Watermark Hotel. These historical photographs were printed from the original negatives, which were taken between 1900 and 1925. The Institute of Texas Cultures in San Antonio was very helpful in researching their archives for these photographs. They are framed in hand-carved, genuine white gold leaf moldings.

This large abstract painting was commissioned for the Watermark Hotel from Texas artist, Mary Thomas. The bright colors of the background are meant to be reminiscent of the vivid sunsets of Texas and the concept visual of the sky and a floating leaf.

This striking photographic print of a horse gives the animal an almost sculptural feeling. Again, the horse imagery refers back the history of the property, which was once home of the L. Frank Saddlery Company for many years. It is framed in a hand-carved molding with a genuine antique gold leaf finish.

This collection of four photographs depicts the Riverwalk area of San Antonio in years ranging from 1902 to approximately 1935. The Institute of Texas Cultures in San Antonio was very helpful in researching their archives for these images.

They are mixed media pieces on aluminum; the layering of the paint and varnish give the artwork a luminous quality. The colors and technique are meant to remind the viewer of the depth and movement of water, which fits in with the restaurants focus on seafood.
